Our Comprehensive Program

Atlanta Bariatrics has been a designated ASMBS Center of Excellence practice since 2006, one of the first practices in Atlanta to achieve this distinction.

Our surgeons have also both individually been designated as a Center of Excellence surgeon.   We feel our multi-disciplinary approach is extremely important to success, and utilize a combination of dieticians, psychologists, and other medical specialist trained in bariatric care.

Our goal is to get you in the best medical shape possible before surgery, and to ensure continued success following your procedure.  We also firmly believe that education is one of the keys to our successful outcomes, and have specifically designed our program to make you fully aware of the surgery you will undergo and how to make it successful.

We offer multiple monthly support groups led by healthcare professionals to keep you informed and answer questions both before and after surgery.

We are a high-volume center and have treated thousands of patients.   Studies show that surgeons and hospitals with higher volumes achieve better results with fewer complications and better results.  This isn’t something we “dabble” in, this is what we do for a living.

Unlike any other surgical procedure, bariatric surgery requires a partnership between the surgeon and patient in order to be successful.  Bariatric surgery is a wonderful tool for weight loss.  Just like any other tool, if it is not used correctly, it won’t work well.

It is our job to show you how to use that tool correctly (give you the tool book, so to speak), and to have safety nets set up to catch you if you start to stumble and to get you back on track.  The commitment you will need to make to diet and exercise compliance as well as routine clinic visits is your part of the partnership.

The difference between surgery and any previous diets you may have tried is that it will now be much easier to stick to the diet long-term.   Previous diets may have made you lose weight, but you eventually gained weight because it’s extraordinarily difficult to continue to eat small amounts of food and feel full.  Eventually the weight returns.

We’ll work to take away hunger and make you feel full eating a limited amount of food, thereby helping to keep the weight off.   It puts an end to yo-yo dieting of weight loss and subsequent weight re-gain, and thereby allows long-term improvement in your health.
