Here are 4 tips for keeping your 4th of July celebration the healthiest one yet.
- Stay Hydrated. Of course, drinking plenty of water is important, but remember to be mindful of limiting fluids that will dehydrate you such as caffeinated beverages, sugary beverages and alcohol. Keep lots of fresh fruit and veggies around to snack on, as they will contribute some hydration as well.
- Apply Sun Block. Remember to apply sunblock early in the day before you get out into the sun. Reapplying throughout the day is just as important, especially if you are enjoying time at a pool, beach, lake or river.
- Start an Active Tradition. This will get your heart pumping, mood elevated, and potentially give you bragging rights for the year to come!
Some fun and active ideas include: cornhole and horse shoe tournaments or volleyball, kickball, and flag football, basketball games or bocce ball and badminton to name a few. Not feeling competitive? Get a group of friends and family together for a bike ride, nature hike or kayaking adventure.
- Skip Sugary Desserts. This is the perfect time of year to enjoy all the fresh fruit that is in season! Cut up strawberries, melon, mango, and kiwi or grill peaches, pineapple or figs to satisfy your sweet tooth without adding unnecessary processed sugar.
