Laparoscopic Surgery/Open Surgery
We offer multiple procedures at Atlanta Bariatrics. Almost every one of our cases is done laparoscopically, meaning we use multiple small incisions instead of a large incision. We then use specialized instruments and fiber optic cameras to perform the procedures. Laparoscopic surgery is much less invasive and has a lot of advantages over open traditional surgery – and they are all for the patient. It involves a much faster recovery, shorter hospitalization, decreased pain and scarring, quicker return to work or other activities, and decreased overall complications. We are able to do almost all of our procedures this way, but occasionally may need to do open surgery for reasons such as excessive scar tissue from previous abdominal surgeries. Even if you’ve had previous surgery, our skilled laparoscopic surgeons are usually able to still perform the surgeries laparoscopically.
Each patient will always have the choice of which procedure they ultimately decide to undergo. We will go over all the procedures with you in detail, and help you decide which surgery will help you get to your goals. All the procedures work differently, and we’ll help you tailor the procedure that most fits your needs.
